Supreme Court Writing

The Supreme Court of the United States of America has to be one of the most intricate, yet robust Judicial system in the world. First and foremost, it is important to highlight that the Judicial branch, specifically the Supreme Court, is the most powerful governing federal branch; according to this video. But, what does this mean? Well, it means that this branch has great power, and with great power comes great responsibility.

Something that stuck out to me was one of the quotes from a justice that was featured within the video. He claimed that the major tenets of the Supreme Court are: "preserving liberty, safegaurding union, and upholding the law", Which I completely agree with. One key historical event that led to these powers was from the Marbury v. Madison case of 1803 which gave the Supreme Court the power of judicial review. Through this, it gives the court the power to review all federal actions and law set by each and every branch of government to decide whether something is or is not constitutional. This time period was also very pivotal for the Supreme Court of the United States because Justice Marshall was instated during this time, and he is said to have raised the sentiment towards the SCOTUS from the American populous

During my analysis of the video, I not only learned more about the history and rold of the SCOTUS, but also how they conduct their meetings; whether them being diplomatic or debateful. One key aspect that intrigued me the most was the fact that Justice Clarence Thomas  highlighted the fact that he and all of the other diplomats shake hands before every meeting; even while knowing they still might disagree with one another. This showed a level of maturity and mutual respect for one another within this small political group; it also increases my sentiment knowing that I am entrusting a group of gentlemen and gentlewomen who know how to act accordingly to follow the oath that they swore to the Constitution of the United States of America.
